11 1/2 weeks pregnant with the twins

and now we wait

We found out on Friday that I've been unofficially accepted at BYU. I've had interviews with 3 more (UT, Rice & Thunderbird) but have not heard anything since. I won't even know if I get an interview with Harvard or Cambridge until the 2nd week in April, with a decision coming sometime in early May. In the meantime, our days and weeks are, thankfully, constantly busy so that we do not have to wonder like Emerson, "How much of human life is lost in waiting?"

Yesterday we officially began the kids' garden by planting some tomatoes. Add this to the mandarin tree that has somehow managed to survive the first year and some raspberry and blackberry plants we got a few weeks ago, and we're beginning to look like a family that knows something about plants. Hopefully Kit and Kevin will move down here soon and show us what we should have been doing.

Laura is amazing. Not only is she doing twice the work as a normal pregnancy, she is able to go above and beyond in every way. For my birthday, she quietly contacted several of my friends from school and organized a surprise dinner and game night. This last week, she's been pulling extra shifts as the kids and I have been out of commission with some kind of virus that's been going around. All I can say is great things come in small packages!

Two weeks ago John and I went to the doctor for my first prenatal check-up with the doctor. John took the day off work so he could meet my new doctor. After having our first three kids with the Dr. Levin, I decided that it is just too hard to drive so far to see her. Thus the reason for a new doctor. In the beginning the visit went just as expected. The doctor spoke with us for a little while, asked about medical history etc... Then she did the ultrasound. Almost right away she said, "Well, there is just one in there." then about 30 seconds later she said "...or not..." My immediate thought was, " or not, what? is the heart not beating?" Twins was the furthest thing from my mind. John, on the other hand could see the ultrasound and could see what she was seeing - two sacs, two babies, two heart beats. He had the biggest grin on his face I have ever seen.

We both left the doctors office without asking any further questions. I think our heads were too clouded with the information we had just received. Needless to say, questions have come since then and I am sure many more will come before the end of this pregnancy.

As you can see in the ultrasound pictures one of the sacs is smaller than the other. The doctor will monitor the amount of amniotic fluid in both sacs throughout the pregnancy. For now, she feels there is no cause for alarm because both babies are the same size and their heart beats are strong.

Many people have asked if we know yet if they are fraternal or identical. The answer is no. Unless we find out during the pregnancy that we are having a boy and a girl then we will not know the answer to this question until the babies are born.

Thank you all for your prayers. I can feel the blessing from those prayers. I have felt better this pregnancy than I did during my previous three. We are praying that all will continue to go smoothly!
